No Entry: PG 18

Legal but with “No Entry” tags.

How did it feel like when you turned 18? I for one felt like I was finally free to do anything, go anywhere but I definitely had a curfew. And being a Ghanaian and living in Ghana, you’ll know that some things just don’t work in the home. Like the f word- freedom. My mom wasn’t much abreast with today’s world but you’ll be thrilled as to how much hold she had in my life. She never said stuff like, “You’re grounded” or “Timeout” but you’d definitely know you’re in trouble.

Many a time, we’ve thought that growing old gives us the license to do certain things. I wouldn’t want to list any examples due to a reason or two but then again, have you ever stopped to think what the effects of your actions might be? On you or the people around you?

There was a reason that movie had a PG 18. A reason why that club had an ID check. A reason why that box or bottle had the phrase, “Not for persons under 18”. And all those reasons, if they’re bad for the younger version of you, then it means it’s not that good after all because then again, something is likely to go wrong. Like staining your mind, or staining your soul or even endangering your health.

Buddy, it’s good to know you’re of age but have you thought about how old your real self really is? Your real self is the you that lives beyond this life and that’s the part of you which needs the real PG. And in this case, if you have Jesus in your heart as your Lord and Saviour then His father has become your P, your parent. And His Holy Spirit in your heart, is the real G, your Guide

“But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him (the Holy Spirit) to you [to be in close fellowship with you]. And He, when He comes, will convict the world about [the guilt of] sin [and the need for a Savior], and about righteousness, and about judgment: about sin [and the true nature of it], because they do not believe in Me [and My message]; about righteousness [personal integrity and godly character], because I am going to My Father and you will no longer see Me; But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth [full and complete truth]. For He will not speak on His own initiative, but He will speak whatever He hears [from the Father—the message regarding the Son], and He will disclose to you what is to come [in the future].”

John 16:7-10,13
